Description
Original watercolor painting on paper, signed lower left corner: "Bagetti f. Munich". The work is a beautiful panoramic view of the famous painter and surveyor Pietro Bagetti. The Bavarian city, captured from the neighborhood across the river, is characterized by the emergence of both Gothic and Baroque churches, both new buildings in neoclassical style. Bagetti not renounce to include, in close-ups, details of refined taste for the picturesque as the clothes hanging out on the lawns of the laundresses, the two travelers, on the left and guarded by shepherds herd of cows. Cutting down the horizon and the vastness of the sky streaked with clouds vedutistico give great scope to the work, which is among the best representations of the German city in the early nineteenth century and which was reproduced in an engraving by the Viennese Jakob Hirtel copper. The painting can be dated to circa 1815, during which time he returned to serve Bagetti the King of Sardinia after being in the service of Napoleon. Copy in very good state of conservation, Laid down on card ivory; minimal irregularities at the border painted black on all four sides of the view.
